Laconia Municipal Airport is located in Gilford, New Hampshire, about 22 miles from New Hampshire International Speedway in Loudon. Unlike some tracks like Daytona and Atlanta which have an airport directly adjacent to the speedway.

So how does a NASCAR driver travel 22 miles from the nearest airport capable of landing a private jet to the speedway? Aboard a chartered helicopter — of course.

A fleet of helicopters was making the rounds from Loudon to Gilford that day — ferrying drivers and team executives to their jets.

The airport, which is designated KLCI by the FAA, is open to the public, and is located approximately 3 miles northeast of the city of Laconia, NH. Air traffic control is provided by the FAA’s Boston Center.

It’s exact location by Latitude/Longitude is: 43-34-21.8210N / 071-25-08.0410W43-34.363683N / 071-25.134017W 43.5727281 / -71.4189003

The 5,286 ft. runway is capable of handling most small to mid-size business jets.

There are 107 aircraft based at KLCI. On an average day there are 97 takeoffs or landings — but when NASCAR comes to town that figure easily goes to several hundred.
